The puppet ministry at the First United Methodist Church of Canoga Park was started by Barbara Kajiwara and Marilyn Wills in 1981. During the first year the ministry presented short skits and songs once a month to the Church school children. A major presentation was made for the congregation during their worship service the following year. Some skeptics, after the show, decided puppets carried a message not just for children, but also for adults. Over the years the puppeteers and directors have improved their skills by attending workshops from "One-Way Street." They hae participated successfully in competitions, have traveled to perform at other churches, senior centers, retirement hotels, vacation bible school, and special activities The Puppet Ministry has grown from about 7 puppets to 96 today. Creative volunteers have made props of all kinds, sewn costumes, and acquired lights for special effects. This Ministry has a history of 25 years and looks forward to many years ahead. | |||
