			Shirley Thomson was born, raised and educated in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Early in 1960 she moved to California living in the San Fernando Valley. She married in 1961 and continued to live there with her husband, Ray, until his death in 1990. They had two sons, Darrell & Adrian. In 1966 she went to work in the Universal City Studios Law Department retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. Shirley joined Canoga Park 1st UMC February 5, 1969 and has been active in the church for many years serving on various committees namely, the Membership Committee, Memorial Committee, Trustees, Laura Longman Scholarship Committee and Church Council on which she is currently serving as the Chairperson. In addition she has been an usher for almost 15 years and was a Sunday School Teacher in the late 70's and early 80's teaching Jr. High. Shirley has been a member of our United Methodist Women's Unit since 1987 and served in various capacities on the UMW Mission Team acting as president for 5 years. Since 1996, Shirley has been our church's liaison with the Adopt A Child Abuse Caseworker program through the Department of Children and Family Services providing children under the care of our assigned caseworker with clothing, furniture, baby needs, etc.
