Bob Hromadka Honored on Father's Day

Comments by Shirley Thomson as she presented the honoree.

In 2005 United Methodist Women decided to recognize a man in our congregation on father's day by awarding him a UMW Special Mission Recognition Award for his hard work, volunteerism and dedication. There are a number of dedicated men currently in our church who spend numerous hours volunteering their time to make our church the best possible place in which to worship. Their many and varied gifts are appreciated and we say thank you to each and every one of you.

This will be our fourth presentation. United Methodist Women have selected a recipient for our Special Mission Recognition Award who has dedicated himself to the work of the Lord for many years.

Our recipient was born in a Santa Monica Hospital co-founded by his grandfather. He grew up in Brentwood and graduated from University High School in 1957. He attended Santa Monica College and took some classes at UCLA.

His employment included working for united detector technology and Marquardt Corporation an aeronautical engineering firm dedicated solely to the development of the ramjet engine. In 1977 he joined Litton Industries.

In 1980 he was married at the Woodland Hills Congregational Church in Woodland Hills. On learning that a boyhood friend was pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Canoga Park, he and his wife decided to join the church in 1995.

Since joining the church this person has served for 13 years on the Outreach Committee, the Church Council, and since 2005 the Property & Upkeep Committee. Of course, he became a part of our newly formed Multi Media Task Force. In addition, he is a member of the Valley Interfaith Council. For his service to the city of Canoga Park he received an award from the city of Los Angeles. He is very involved with the Prince of Peace Food Pantry, serving as co-chair. He has also served on the board of El Centro de Armistad, a multilingual, cross cultural organization providing a comprehensive range of services.

Often you will find this individual with 3 by 5" multicolored cards in hand making a list of things to be taken care of on the property that includes plumbing, sprinklers, and a variety of other projects. This person is willing to help in any way he can. He and his wife did not hesitate to take over the Christmas Angel Tree project in 2006 while I was recuperating from surgery and I personally want to thank both of them.

I will close with a quote from his long time friend, Gary Dickey, who said "he is a kind man, quiet, always willing to help and one who has grown in his faith in many ways. And one, whose last name very few people can spell."

I am happy to present this award to Bob HROMADKA.
